York!  Quit pushing debris-ridden seaweed into the ocean!

Let's care for Long Sands RIGHT.

When York resident Cy Zetterberg saw debris-ridden seaweed getting pushed back out to sea at Long Sands Beach in York, Maine, he took action and contacted the Surfrider Foundation Maine Chapter. Together, we worked with the Town of York, the Maine State Marine Patrol, and concerned area residents to offer commonsense solutions that allow the Town to create a user-friendly beach while also protecting the environment.

Cy quickly became a core Maine Chapter volunteer and has established a cleanup effort to continue assisting the Town with removing debris from the beach and the seaweed. The town is now composting seaweed in designated areas on the beach. Win-win!
