At Surfrider Maine, protecting our coast is a community effort. From volunteers collecting water samples in the middle of winter to families joining beach cleanups in the summer, our work is powered by people who care deeply about the ocean and the places we share. Partnerships with community-minded organizations help make that work possible.

Martin’s Point supports one of our favorite youth initiatives: Junior Beach Guardians connects our youth with Maine’s beaches by teaching them how to observe, record, and protect coastal habitats — while inspiring the next generation of ocean stewards.
Through guided beach explorations and activities, Junior Beach Guardian participants learn about ocean health, marine debris, water quality, wildlife, and how everyday actions can help protect our coastal ecosystems. The program encourages curiosity and helps kids build a lasting connection to the ocean.
Support from Martin’s Point helps us expand these opportunities for youth across our coastal communities — providing resources that allow us to reach more families and bring more kids into meaningful experiences on the beach.
In addition to supporting the program, Martin’s Point staff also show up in person to help protect the coast. During their Weeks of Service in the spring and fall, employees participate in beach cleanups at their favorite beaches to remove marine debris and care for our shared shoreline.
Programs like Junior Beach Guardians matter because today’s young beachgoers are tomorrow’s advocates, scientists, and community leaders. When kids spend time learning about the coast, they gain a deeper appreciation for how special — and how vulnerable — these places are.
Martin’s Point’s commitment to supporting youth education and volunteering on the beach helps ensure Maine’s coastline remains a place where people can explore, learn, and connect with the ocean for generations to come.
