Our chapter is one part of a nationwide volunteer network that includes 80 chapters and 70 youth clubs, all aiming to drive the Surfrider Foundation mission to protect and enjoy the world’s ocean, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network.
You can think about that as three concepts. “Protect and enjoy” — we don’t want to put a velvet rope around a beach and tell people to keep off. We’re surfers, we’re kayakers, we’re beach goers, we’re water-lovin’ folks… we’re all types of folks who enjoy the coast! We’re a user group taking action to protect what we enjoy and love.
Next up is “ocean, waves and beaches” — think coastlines; we’re engaged with environmental issues that affect our coastlines.
“Powerful activist network” speaks to how we go about this mission. We are a grassroots organization. We’re moms, dads, surfers, kids, teens and in-betweens… we’re you.
The Surfrider Foundation Maine Chapter is engaged to protect what we love: Maine’s ocean, waves and beaches.
Surfrider is local in many coastal regions. We’re here in Maine and YOU can get involved!
A healthy ocean and coastal ecosystem in Maine starts with you. Come join forces with other like-minded folks to effect some positive changes!
We have a ton of opportunities for you to engage with our chapter, from helping staff tables at beach cleanups to organizing events to leading campaigns and signing-up to be a leader of our chapter to help steer the ship. There’s plenty to do for every age, ability, level of time commitment and interest!
Just give us a shout to learn when our next meeting is and talk about getting involved, or to ask a question: maine@surfrider.org.
