Restoration Events - 2026

Join a CAP event and help Surfrider protect our coastline!

In 2026, Surfrider Maine is expanding its Climate Action Events program with multiple hands-on restoration and research opportunities along Maine’s coastline. Through collaborative efforts with local land trusts, municipalities, and community partners, we are advancing dune restoration, native plant installation, invasive species management, marine debris data collection, and long-term coastal preservation strategies.

These events empower volunteers to take meaningful climate action while strengthening the resilience of our beaches, islands, and working waterfronts. Together, we are building healthier coastal ecosystems and a stronger network of community stewards across Maine.

Beach Guardians Maine

The Beach Guardian Program is quickly expanding throughout coastlines across our nation — empowering volunteers to take direct, meaningful action in their own communities.

Designed with flexibility in mind, Beach Guardians choose their own time and location, making this one of the most volunteer-friendly ways to create lasting environmental impact. Whether it’s a favorite stretch of shoreline or a remote rocky outcrop, every visit creates a ripple effect.

Guardians remove rogue fishing gear, collect debris like plastic and styrofoam, and prevent harmful waste from re-entering the marine ecosystem. Beyond cleanups, guardians monitor habitats, wildlife, coastal infrastructure, and severe weather impacts — completing data reports that inform restoration efforts, policy and long-term coastal resilience strategies.

Onsite training and orientation are provided, along with gear and program summits that connect volunteers with a growing network of coastal stewards.
